Our roots
Madison Waldorf School was born out of the hearts of a group of parents who had a specific vision for their children.
These parents sought not just an education, but a lifestyle, a mindset, an entire childhood that acknowledged and celebrated every facet of their children as human beings – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Inspired by the philosophical tenets of Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy, they started a preschool and kindergarten program named Oak Song based on Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy . As it grew, the program rented out a couple of spaces in an office building before eventually expanding and taking over the entire building.
Our growth
Today, we offer preschool through eighth grade and are quickly outgrowing that office building.
As more and more families seek a holistic education for their children, we provide an environment that deeply nourishes mind, body, and soul. Our emphasis on relationships, nature, healthy development, and multifaceted learning truly sets us apart.
Our alumni are proof of that, as they are currently thriving in high school and college. Students have gone on to a variety of Madison-area high schools: West High School, East High School, Memorial High School, Middleton High School, Edgewood High School, Clark Street Community School, Mount Horeb High School, Sauk Prairie High School, and elsewhere.
Alumni and former students are currently in college at Yale, Brown University, Arizona State University, Colorado College, Lewis & Clark College, University of British Columbia-Vancouver, doing dance studies in London, and elsewhere.
Our harvest
Madison Waldorf School is looking for a new home, a home that will allow our students to connect deeply with themselves, their communities, and this amazing planet.
We dream of a nature-filled sanctuary for our children to explore and discover the world firsthand through play, through gardening, perhaps even through taking care of animals such as goats and chickens.
