Early Childhood

Preschool & Kindergarten

A world of imagination and play

Children live in a world of fantasy and imagination for their first seven years. During this time, they learn about themselves, others, and the world through play—the primary force that nourishes their growth.

Core elements

Our early childhood program emphasizes

Free play

Unstructured playtime for imagination to flourish

Time in nature

Outdoor experiences that nurture a connection with the natural world

Art & music

Creative activities that inspire joy and expression

Love and wonder

An environment filled with warmth, care, and discovery

Development at its own pace

Early childhood is such a short period, and we cherish it as much as possible. Rather than rush a child prematurely, we purposefully postpone skills such as reading and writing until first grade because we know that an overdeveloped child becomes an underdeveloped adult.

Focus on Social-Emotional Growth

Waldorf focuses on the social-emotional skills and proper neurological development that is the foundation for the child’s sense of well-being, emotional and mental health, and fulfillment in life.

Laying a strong foundation

While they are in the Early Childhood program, children foster healthy connections with themselves, their peers, and the planet. In this way, Waldorf Early Childhood holistically lays a strong foundation for the child to enter the more rigorous journey of formal academics in grade school.
