Nurturing curiosity through connection

The connections that took root in Early Childhood continue to be nurtured in the elementary years, kindling children’s curiosity and desire to learn by engaging their head, heart, and hands.

Hands-on, experience-based learning

In our elementary program, we intentionally avoid using screens for instructional purposes. Instead, we embrace experience-based learning that stimulates multiple senses and encourages active participation.

Children learn through a variety of hands-on experiences, including:

Stories

Students immerse themselves in rich narratives from history, mythology, and literature, inspiring imagination and deep thinking.

Field Trips

Children venture outside the classroom to experience real-world connections to their studies, fostering hands-on learning and discovery.

Foreign Languages

Students explore new cultures and perspectives by learning a foreign language, enhancing communication and cognitive abilities.

Music & Art

Students explore creativity through music and visual arts, engaging in activities like singing, playing instruments, drawing, and painting to express their emotions and ideas

Overnight Camping Trips

Elementary students deepen their connection to nature and their peers through camping trips that foster independence and teamwork.

Building Projects

Through woodworking and other construction projects, students experience the satisfaction of creating something tangible from raw materials.

Cooking

Students engage their senses and practical skills by preparing and cooking food, fostering teamwork and understanding of nutrition.

The result

These immersive activities not only spark engagement but also enhance children’s observational skills, information retention, critical thinking, and social development.

Embracing new feelings of vulnerability

Early childhood is such a short period, and we cherish it as much as possible. Rather than rush a child prematurely, we purposefully postpone skills such as reading and writing until first grade because we know that an overdeveloped child becomes an underdeveloped adult.

Focus on Social-Emotional Growth

Waldorf focuses on the social-emotional skills and proper neurological development that is the foundation for the child’s sense of well-being, emotional and mental health, and fulfillment in life.
